Pasco High Supports Patriotic Mason Lodge No. 48 Ceremony
By CDR Michael Wilson, CDR USN-Ret
The Pasco High School Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) were invited to participate in a patriotic American Flag Presentation, Raising, Retirement, and Replacement Ceremony for the Dade City Masonic Lodge No. 48 Free and Accepted Masons (F. &A.M.) located on State Road 52 on Saturday, 01 May 2004. Mr. E. E. Young, a long time dedicated Mason approached the Instructional Staff of the NJROTC Unit in hopes the Cadets would be interested in the time honored and patriotic ceremony of retiring and replacing the colors of our great country. The NJROTC jumped at the volunteer opportunity to provide hands-on citizenship and community service to the greater Pasco County area. Throughout this past 2003-2004 academic school year, the Pasco High School NJROTC Pirate Company has provided over 5000 hours of community service and citizenship at various civic functions, parades, and community events. The Mason - NJROTC partnership was an ideal match in view of both organizations’ similar core values of country, community leadership, community service, and citizenship. Although neighbors on State Road 52, this is the first function where both organizations have worked together to support each other. After the success of Saturday’s function both organizations look forward to a healthy future working relationship.
The ceremony began with traditional military music followed by the formal presentation of Colors by the Pasco High School NJROTC Color Guard, National Anthem, and the Retirement, Replacement, and Raising of the Stars and Stripes and the POW/MIA Flags at the flagpole located in front of Masonic Lodge No. 48. The Patriotic Ceremony was dedicated to the many Veterans of Pasco County, all who have served, all who are presently serving, and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in support of our great country, life, liberty, and all those who threaten it.
In
addition to local Masonic Lodge No. 48 Brothers, the Pasco NJROTC
Cadets, and Supporters of Pasco NJROTC several high-ranking members
of the local Masonic District attended the ceremony. These members
that took time out of the busy schedules to travel to Dade City were
District Deputy Grand Master, R. W. Fred Harman, District Instructor
for Masonic Education, W. Bob Darden, District Committeeman for
Public Education, W. Allen Walls, and
The Pasco High NJROTC Unit is a leadership based education partnership between The Navy, District Board of Pasco County, Pasco High School, and Wesley Chapel High School.
